Fulham Ladies moved into the 4th round of the AXA F.A. Womens’ Cup after a 10-0 away win against Ipswich Town Ladies.

Ipswich battled well and caused some problems for Fulham early on in the game. Fulham were reduced to some long range shots which ‘keeper dealt with comfortably. For twenty minutes the game was contested in both halves of the field although Fulham had more of the possession. McArthur received a yellow card for an over-enthusiastic tackle on the halfway line. Tackles from both sides were strong but fair as the game was keenly contested.

On 22 minutes Rachel Yankey broke the deadlock after she controlled a through ball from Jeray-Silver on the outside of her left foot which took her past the defender and with her second touch placed the ball wide of the advancing ‘keeper. A minute later Jackie Dinham made it two after she turned and shot from the edge of the box.

Fulham’s third was a classic counter-attack. Kim Jeray-Silver started the move from the left back position and played a long ball into Yankey who flicked it onto Dinham. Dinham released Rachel McArthur who had made a fifty yard run and took the ball into the opposition’s box before firing home. McArthur returned the complement 5 minutes later when she picked out Dinham with a cross that was headed into the far corner for number four.

Fulham were now playing very fluent football and it was no surprise when a fifth was scored by after Dinham had supplied the cross for a rare Yankey diving header. Just before half time Katie Chapman played in Margunn Haugenes who twisted the defender inside and out before placing the ball into the far corner of the net.

The second half saw Ipswich defending their box in numbers but there was nothing they could do when Rachel Yankey scored her third with a 35 yard strike in the 53rd minute. Fulham continued to probe a determined defence and were rewarded when Haugenes scored her second after being put through by Dinham. Ipswich continued to battle well and force errors in Fulham’s defence but Jody Bowry in goal was not troubled.

With 10 minutes to go Laveena Betts got on the score sheet after she converted Yankey’s driven cross into the net. Deena Rahman rounded the day off with a fine individual goal.
