Fulham have joined the race to sign Newcastle United's Jonas Gutierrez, but they face stiff competition for the winger.
According to the Evening Chronicle, the Cottagers are hoping to bring the Argentine international in on loan, with an option to buy at the end of the season.
Gutierrez is seeking a move away from St. James Park following Newcastle's relegation from the Premier League, in order to boost his chances of remaining in Diego Maradona's plans for the 2010 World Cup.
However, Fulham aren't the only team after his signature. Their biggest threat comes from Porto, who might be a more attractive proposition for Gutierrez.
In 30 games for Newcastle, the former Mallorca man failed to score a single goal, and he may not be keen on another Premier League campaign. In addition, there is a strong Argentinean contingent at Porto.
Tottenham Hotspur have also registered their interest in Jonas previously, but they have not shown any indication of a move for him yet.
