Fulham are set to hold talks with Leeds United over a permanent deal for loan star Dan James, sources have told Football Insider.
The 25-year-old joined the Cottagers on a season-long loan deal last summer (2022) but has not yet become a regular fixture in Marco Silva’s side.
It is believed that Leeds will be happy to part with James in the summer window if they suffer relegation to the Championship.
They are outside the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference following their 4-1 loss away at Bournemouth on Sunday (30 April).
The Elland Road club have moved to appoint veteran boss Sam Allardyce in a “firefighter” role until the end of the season – ahead of their last four games against Man City, Newcastle, West Ham and Tottenham.
James, who is contracted at Leeds until June 2026, has made 26 senior appearances this term – notching three goals and one assist.
However, the rapid winger has managed just six starts for the Cottagers across all competitions.
He starred in a centre-forward role in the 3-1 win over Everton last month in the absence of Aleksander Mitrovic – notching a goal and an assist in a rare start.
James featured for his country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar – playing in each of Wales’ Group B matches.
He has made 43 appearances for Wales in total, scoring five goals.
The 25-year-old, who only joined Leeds from Man United in 2021, earns a reported wage of £50,000-a-week on his Whites contract.
Uncertainty is hanging over the futures of several Fulham wingers as the summer window approaches.
