French champions Olympique Lyon have lodged an official complaint with Fifa over Fulham's refusal to pay the full transfer fee for striker Steve Marlet.

"Olympique Lyonnais confirm that they have asked FIFA to obtain the fee for the transfer of international striker Steve Marlet that English club Fulham have refused to pay," a statement said on Lyon's official website, www.olympiquelyonnais.com.

"Olympique Lyonnais also ask that the disciplinary sanctions in this case be applied to the London club regarding the payment of this fee mounting to 4.57 millions euros (£2,965,987)."

Marlet was transferred in August 2001 for £11.5m, a transfer which led to an investigation by the English FA and Fulham.

The Cottagers are refusing to pay the entire fee owed to Lyon because the London club are questioning the role of agents in negotiations during the move.

Fulham said "We have had concerns over the role played by some agents, and selling clubs, in the transfer of some foreign players" .

They refused to go into greater depth because of the possibility of court proceedings.
