Fulham have extended Albion loanee Stefan Johansen’s contract by an extra year, owner Shahid Khan has announced.

Johansen, who joined the Baggies on loan in January, was out of contract in the summer with an extra year in the Cottagers’ favour.

He was instrumental in getting Fulham up to the Premier League, scoring eight goals and laying on nine assists, but struggled for minutes at Craven Cottage in the top tier.

But Fulham have been relegated back to the Championship and Khan revealed in the final programme of the season that his contract, as well as three others, had been extended after Tom Cairney signed a new deal.

"Among Tom 's teammates who will return to the squad in 2019/20 are Denis Odoi, Floyd Ayite, Neeskens Kebano and Stefan Johansen, all of who have had their options picked up,” said Khan.

"All four have been faithful to Fulham and were instrumental in our promotion, giving us great confidence, ability and continuity as we prepare for the intensity of a 46-match season in the Championship.

"Denis, Floyd, Neeskens and Stefan each earned their return ticket and we'll be counting on them from the start.

Welcome back gentleman."

Johansen was willing to join the Baggies permanently in January after being frustrated by a lack of minutes in the Premier League with Fulham.

He has scored two goals and laid on three assists in his 13 games for Albion this season.

The Norway captain was forced off in the 85th minute of the play-off semi-final first leg against Aston Villa on Saturday with a tight calf.

However, he is training today and it is hoped he will be fit for Tuesday’s second leg.
