Fulham draw first friendly

last updated Monday 11th July 2005, 9:13 PM
Fulham's pre-season preparations got under way at the Sportstadion, St Andrae on Monday evening with a goalless draw against Austrian outfit SK St Andrae.

New signing Ahmad Elrich took part in the opening 45 minutes and was replaced at half time by Fulham Academy graduate Matty Collins. The Welsh Youth International was then replaced by Mark Pembridge after suffering a knock. Pembridge returned to the field of play after being substituted minutes earlier.

The first half was typical of a pre-season friendly with the game adopting something of a slower than usual pace. However, the encounter livened up in the second half.

Canadian international Tomasz Radzinski came close to opening the scoring for Fulham in the 55th minute when he was played in behind the home defence by Andrew Cole. He successfully managed to round the keeper only to see his effort hit the base of the post from an acute angle.

Almost immediately after, a fine one-on-one save from Jaroslav Drobny prevented St Andrae from finding the back of the net. The big Czech keeper spread himself well and managed to smuggle the ball away.

With the action picking up Alain Goma thumped a header against the crossbar when he managed to get on the end of a well delivered Adam Green corner.

Further chances came for the Whites with Andrew Cole going close on two separate occasions. Zesh Rehman, who partnered Goma in the centre of defence, then saw his header flash wide.
