England under-21 international Steven Sessegnon has declared that it was 'an easy choice' to sign for Plymouth Argyle on loan from Fulham until the end of the season.

Sessegnon became the Pilgrims' third signing of the January transfer window when he completed his move at Home Park last night.

Argyle are seventh in League One with 18 games remaining this season and Sessegnon's arrival is a big boost to their play-off chances.

There had been interest in the 21-year-old from Hull City, a Scottish Premiership side and a couple of other League One clubs.

Sessegnon told Argyle's official club website: "I am very happy to be here and once I got the phone call, my mind was set.

"I knew that this side wants to get promoted, that was a big thing for me wanting to come here and win some games.

"I just want to play in a good side that wins week in week out and it’s clear this side wants to win. It was an easy choice for me to come here."

Sessegnon won the FIFA Under-17 World Cup with England in 2017 when Argyle director of football Neil Dewsnip was part of the coaching set-up so the pair know each other well.

The same applies to Argyle's recently-appointed first team head coach Keith Downing, who worked with Sessegnon at England under-19 and under-20 level.

Sessegnon's past experience of Dewsnip and Downing should make his transition to Argyle a smoother one for him.

Dewsnip told Plymouth Live: "I'm really excited that Argyle can attract a player of Steven's quality. He can play in a number of positions so will be a strong contender for Steven's team, and that's what we want.

"We want people to challenge for a starting 11 place. We don't want complacency, we want continued improvement.

"He's a fast, attacking wide player, predominantly on the right-hand side but can play on the other side of the field as well."

Sessegnon started the Under-17 World Cup final for England against Spain in India, when the young Lions won the tournament for the first time after coming back from a two-goal deficit to win 5-2.

Dewsnip said: "Steven is somebody I shared that experience with. He was one of the starting players in that team.

"He was very impressive throughout the tournament and it will be really nice to hook up with him again, as it will for Keith Downing. e played in Keith's teams at an older age as well. "He's still very young, obviously. Steven is somebody that we look forward to having in our environment, certainly on loan until the end of the season."
