Fulham defender Jerome Opoku has had his loan at Plymouth Argyle extended for the rest of the 2020/21 campaign.

Pilgrims’ boss Ryan Lowe had previously stated that was the intention but now it has been confirmed.

Lowe told the club’s official website: “We’re delighted to extend Jerome’s loan until the end of the season. It was always the plan, and he has done well and is working hard.

“He’s a good lad and a good player. On the occasions he has found himself out of the team he has come back stronger.

“He has made that position his own at the moment, and long may that continue.”

Opoku made his debut at left wing-back in the 1-0 away League One defeat against Hull City on October 3.

His only goal was an important one, a late equaliser in the Sky-televised 2-2 draw with Portsmouth at Home Park on November 16.

As you would expect from a relatively inexperienced 21-year-old, the form of Jerome Opoku at Argyle has been inconsistent at times.

He was dropped, for example, after struggling in the 3-0 League One defeat at Bristol Rovers on December 12.

However, when he got his chance to play again, after sitting out four matches, he took it and he deserves credit for being able to do that.

At 6ft 4in in height and with plenty of mobility, he is ideally suited to playing in the middle position of Ryan Lowe's three-man central defence.

I would still expect Lowe to try and bring in another defender before the January transfer window closes, but the re-signing of Opoku on loan gives him some added assurance for the rest of the season.
