Fulham have completed the signing of Luciano Vietto on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid.

The 24-year-old Argentine has feature prominently for Diego Simeone's team during pre-season but will now spend the 2018-19 campaign with the Cottagers.

"I'm very happy to come to the club and sign. I'm very excited to get started with the team tomorrow," said Vietto.

"It's an important change for me because this is my first experience here in England. I hope to do as well as possible."

Vietto signed for Atletico in June 2015 for a fee in the region of £18m from La Liga rivals Valencia - where he scored 12 goals in 32 games - but he has faced limited opportunities since moving to Madrid.

The 24-year-old made 19 league appearances in his debut season, but was loaned to Sevilla for the 2016-17 campaign, finding the back of the net six times in 21 matches.

Vietto featured just six times for Atletico in the Spanish top flight last season and spent the second half of the campaign on loan back at Valencia.

Fulham FC statement:
The Club is delighted to confirm the signing of forward Luciano Vietto from Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old began his career in his native Argentina with Racing Club, where he was handed a first team debut by Diego Simeone in October 2011.

His subsequent form earned international recognition at Under-20 level, and he attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, but penned a contract extension with Racing.

Vietto eventually made the move into Europe in August 2014, joining La Liga outfit Villarreal. He instantly settled into life in Spain, netting 18 times as the Yellow Submarine secured a sixth place finish, reached the Copa del Rey Semi-Finals, and progressed to the Europa League knock-out stages.

He was the joint-third top scorer in the Europa League with six strikes to his name, while he topped the charts in terms of assists, laying on a further six goals for teammates.

That form led to a reunion with Simeone, who brought him to Atletico Madrid just a year later. His first goal came in the Madrid derby a month into his Atletico career, and he netted his first Champions League goal soon after.

After helping Atletico to third place in La Liga and the Final of the Champions League, Vietto joined Sevilla on loan for the 2016/17 season, reaching double figures in terms of goals scored.

Midway through last term he took in another loan spell, this time at Valencia, and he got off the mark for his new side when he bagged a hat-trick in a 4-0 victory over Las Palmas. Valencia ended the season fourth in La Liga and in the Semi-Finals of the Copa del Rey.

Speaking at Motspur Park, Vietto told fulhamfc.com: “I’m very happy to come to the Club and sign. I’m very excited to get started with the team tomorrow.

“It’s an important change for me because this is my first experience here in England. I hope to do as well as possible.”

Tony Khan added: “I’m pleased to announce that Fulham Football Club has signed Luciano Vietto on loan from Atlético Madrid.

“Luciano is a versatile young attacking player, and he has already gained great experience against elite competition in La Liga.

“He is a welcome addition, and we are very excited that he’s joined the Club! Come on Fulham!”
