A member of the media asked Fulham coach Marco Silva if Thursday night is a prime chance for Fulham to return to winning ways, considering Aston Villa currently sit 16th in the table.

But such is the competitiveness of the division, a victory for the visitors could see them move above us in the standings, and Silva knows another difficult test awaits.

“It’s always a good opportunity to fight for the three points, to get points, to perform well,” he said. “That is really important for us.

“And playing at home, even more, but it’s the Premier League, and the Premier League is always a good opportunity for that.

“But at the same time, it is a very good challenge, a tough challenge that we play against a very good team with high quality individual players around all the pitch. And, of course, because of that we have to perform at our best level.

“If we want really to get the three points we have to perform at our best level, and some of the things that we did last game in a very good way, we have to keep doing.

“Of course, there are other things that we must improve clearly, the way we started last time, all those situations would be better for us to improve, to give the right steps to be stronger as a team.

“And if we perform at our best level to avoid certain types of mistakes, of course we are able to win the match.”

Villa’s four game unbeaten run came to an end at the weekend, but they were impressive nonetheless against Chelsea and would likely have got a result had it not been for the heroics of opposition goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

“We analysed them, we know what they're capable of,” Silva said. “I know that, from an individual point of view, they have really high quality.

“They are a team that they can play two different formations during the game, they have some players that can make the difference, whether they start or not they can make the team a little bit different.

“I'm not saying they are better with one or the other but they can make their team a little bit different. We are ready for it, we analyse them, we prepare our ourselves for the situation.

“They definitely have quality. Even if they didn't get points from the last game I think they showed it with the chances they created during the game.

“Most of the game they controlled a team like Chelsea. They were really dangerous in all the moments they arrived in the final third, and showed their quality.

“Of course we know their strengths, we know some weaknesses that we should exploit as well, and we are ready for the match.”
