Fulham FC have offered to sign South Korean striker Lee Chun-soo for one year before entering negotiations for a full transfer, an official of Lee's club said on Monday.

"Fulham FC on Saturday faxed us a document asking us to loan Lee to them for a year," said Kim Hyung-ryong, vice president of Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i. "We will have to discuss it among ourselves before making a final decision."

According to Kim, Fulham intends to start full transfer negotiations next January. The English club offered a 750,000-pound (US$1.5 million) yearly salary for Lee and a 100,000-pound transfer fee to the Ulsan club.

Fulham also offered a 2-million-pound transfer fee to Ulsan if the two sides agree on a full transfer, Kim said.

The chances of Lee going to Fulham are not considered to be high as Lee failed in January to reach a deal with Wigan Athletic FC of the Premier League with similar terms.

Fulham, established in 1897 in London, currently rank 16th in the league with four games to go before the end of the season. If they finish this season below 17th, they will be relegated to the secondary league, the Champions League, next season.

The Premier League club appointed Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez to replace Chris Coleman on Tuesday.

Lee scored a winning goal on the home pitch of Fulham, Craven Cottage, in early February during a friendly match between South Korea and Greece.

The Premier League currently has four South Korean players: Park Ji-sung of Manchester United, Lee Young-pyo of Tottenham Hotspurs, Seol Ki-hyeon of FC Reading and Lee Dong-gook of Middlesbrough.
