Just a few days after falling to the foot of the Premier League table, Rene Meulensteen's brief reign plunged to a new low as Fulham were humiliated on their own patch by Nigel Clough's Sheffield United.

The only surprise on a depressing night for the home side was that it took the visitors until the 120th minute to score.

Sub Shaun Miller was the United hero, nodding in Harry Maguire's knockdown to earn his side a fifth round home tie against Preston or Nottingham Forest.

And Fulham can't say they weren't warned.

Sheffield United claimed the first Premier League scalp of their FA Cup run with a stunning third-round win at Aston Villa.

Then Fulham needed a late equaliser in the original tie at Bramall Lane to grab a second chance of reaching the fifth round.

But there was no coming back for Fulham last night when Miller popped up to bury a back post header and send United through.

That was the right outcome too after they made Fulham look like the League One strugglers for 120 minutes.

Jamie Murphy, twice, and John Brayford went close for the visitors before the break.

Meanwhile Fulham's desperate display was summed up when the home fans sarcastically cheered winning a couple of corners before booing their side off for the first time.

The Blades continued to dominate after the break while Fulham resorted to pumping hopeful long balls towards Mark Howard's goal.

David Stockdale denied Brayford in extra time to keep the Cottagers alive before Pajtim Kasami went close to nicking it for the hosts as the game edged towards penalties.

But Miller's last-gasp header ensured Fulham didn't get that far and Sheffield United got what they deserved for their heroic display.
