Former Fulham and Finland international Antti Niemi has been appointed goalkeeping coach at Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion.
The ex-Southampton, Fulham and Portsmouth shot-stopper will work with his compatriot Sami Hyypia, who was made Brighton manager earlier this summer following the post-season resignation of Oscar Garcia.
As well as making more than 160 appearances in English football, Niemi also enjoyed successful spells with Scottish sides Rangers and Hearts, and has worked as a goalkeeping specialist with Finland's national team plus Finnish club HJK Helsinki since hanging up his gloves in 2010.
The 42-year-old is the third backroom appointment made today at the Sussex outfit; former Bolton Wanderers boss Sammy Lee has been named as Hyypia's assistant, while Thomas Barnden was promoted from the academy set-up to become first-team strength and conditioning coach.
Speaking about the arrivals of Lee and Niemi, Hyypia believes Brighton's backroom team for 2014-15 is a strong one.
"I am delighted Sammy and Antti have accepted our offer, and I am very pleased to welcome them to the club," the former Liverpool defender told the official Seagulls website.
"I know both Sammy and Antti well, having been at Liverpool when Sammy was assistant manager, and I played alongside Antti for the Finnish national team. They are two great characters and will bring a great deal to the club, to the players, and to me personally as manager.
"Sammy has played and coached at the top level of football domestically and with England. Antti has played in the English and Scottish Premier Leagues, so he knows British football very well."
