Former Fulham defender Jordan Evans would jump at the chance to sign for his home-town club Wrexham.

The left-back came through Wrexham’s youth system and joined Fulham at the age of 15 but was released by the Championship outfit at the end of last season.

Now 20, Evans is back at The Racecourse on trial with the intention of impressing manager Gary Mills and earning a contract.

“I have been at Fulham for four or five years but I was at Wrexham from under nines to under 16s and I would love to come back to where it all started,” said Evans.

“A lot has changed but I still see a lot of familiar faces. Obviously Robbie Evans is in the first team now and I still see the academy staff that I grew up which is nice.

“I am really enjoying it back at Wrexham. The standard is good, hopefully the next few days are positive and we will see what happens at the end of it.

“We will see what the gaffer has to say. It is my home town, my family is from here and I have grown up here. It would be a proud day if I was able to sign for Wrexham.”

Evans never played for Fulham’s first team, although he was an unused substitute for the League Cup game against Stoke City at Craven Cottage in September 2015.

A Wales under 21 international, Evans joined League Two outfit Oxford United on loan in November and he made 14 appearances in all competitions for the U’s, scoring one goal.

But Evans, whose younger brother Kieran signed his first professional contract at Chester in April, is looking forward to a new challenge after leaving Fulham.

“I had two great years at Fulham when I was under 18s, then I had a good six months on loan at Oxford last year,” said Evans. “I got a few appearances in the league.

“It has been a decent ride but I am looking forward to getting into mens football now.

“I played under 21s football while I was at Fulham but being on loan at Oxford last year was the only taste of mens football I have had.

“As soon as I got the taste, I just want to continue so Wrexham would be a great place to hopefully start my career in mens football.”

Evans believes being a utility player will be useful wherever he ends up plying his trade.

“I can play left wing, left back and I can operate on the other wing as well so I have got a few strings to my bow,” Evans added.

While Mills is still running the rule over Evans, he hopes to bring in three strikers today with Jordan White ruled out of action for at least eight weeks because of bloodstream problems
