  • Chelsea will test the depth of Liverpool's financial problems and their resolve to keep Fernando Torres by bidding £50m for the Spanish international striker. (News of the World )

  • But Torres says Liverpool will challenge Chelsea and Manchester United, despite not having the same financial clout as their rivals. He also wants to stay at Liverpool and get close to the legendary status of Kenny Dalglish and Robbie Fowler. (Mail on Sunday)

  • Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with Valencia striker David Villa but Torres has told them to forget about signing him as believes his international strike partner will go to either Barcelona or Real Madrid. (Sunday Telegraph)
