Fulham's Republic of Ireland right-back Steve Finnan has agreed a transfer to Liverpool according to reports on Sky Sports tv.

The 27-year-old is reported to have agreed personal terms with the Anfield outfit and just needs to pass a medical to complete his transfer.

Born in Limerick in April 1976, it was Barry Fry who first spotted his potential playing for non-league Welling in 1995, and he took him to Birmingham City.

It wasn't long though before Finnan was loaned out to Notts County before joining on a permanent basis for £300,000 in 1996.

He spent two seasons at Meadow Lane before the Fulham boss at the time Kevin Keegan paid £600,000 to bring him to Craven Cottage November 1998.

He has played 22 times for Ireland scoring one goal, and has over 200 first team games for Fulham and has scored 7 goals, his last was nearly 3 years ago at Sheffield United during Fulham's Division One championship year.

Finnan will link up with former assistant manager at Fulham, Christian Damiano, who is expected to arrive in time for the start of pre-season in July to join Gerard Houllier's backroom staff. The Republic of Ireland international will become the first player Gerard Houllier signs in his summer rebuilding after a disappointing season and he will put pressure on Jamie Carragher for the right-back berth.

His fee is expected to be around the £3.5 to £4m mark.
