Nationwide Conference champions Accrington Stanley have made their first summer signing in the form of former Fulham midfielder Sean Doherty.
The 21-year-old arrives at The Fraser Eagle Stadium after finishing the last campaign with League One club Port Vale.
The young winger started his career with The Cottagers but failed to make a breakthrough with the West Londoners, having spent time on loan at Blackpool back in 2003.
He then made the move to Holland's Eredivisie with ADO Den Haag last summer, but lasted until the January transfer window when he joined Martin Foyle's Valiants.
With Stanley making their long-awaited return to The Football League next season, Doherty has opted for a move to Lancashire with John Coleman's side.
"Sean is a very promising player, I have been keeping an eye on him for a while now and he is looking forward to starting the season with us this year," Coleman told the club's official website.
"To be honest, I don't know if we'd have been able to bring him here if we were in The Conference, so it's good to see the benefits of being in The Football League are already starting to have an effect."
