The former San Jose winger twisted his ankle in training just when The Cottagers
were lining up a loan move for him, to help his chances of returning to
the US national team.
Lewis has to play first-team football to get back into the reckoning of
US manager Bruce Arena for the matches the US will play in the coming months.
Those matches will determine the squad that Arena will select to take to
the World Cup finals in Japan and Korea next summer.
"Eddie is working hard because it was a fairly substantial ankle ligament
injury," said physio Jason Palmer. "He is starting to get back
into some running and will soon be back in training."
The American is still a few weeks away from returning to the fitness levels
that would make him a viable loan target for a First Division club, with
two teams understood to be interested before his injury.
