Fulham have tried, and failed, to break their transfer record after having a £6m bid for Monaco central defender Martin Djetou rejected

The Premiership new boys' boss Jean Tigana thought he had a deal with his old club in France when Claude Puel was coach. But Didier Deschamps has taken over and wants Djetou to stay.

Deschamps wants the defender to spearhead a Championship challenge next season.

The former Chelsea midfielder revealed: "For the moment, Djetou is here. He is still under contract with ASM (AS Monaco) and I will have a good talk with him. I need those kind of key players."
