Referee David Coote started refereeing as a sixteen year-old. He refereed in the Notts Alliance League, the Northern Counties East Football League, the Northern Premier League and the Conference North before being promoted to the Football League.
A talented cricketer David played cricket for Notts at various youth age groups, before committing to his refereeing career.
He was promoted to the list of Football League referees in 2010 and to the Select Group 2 of Football Referees, employed on a full time basis, in the summer of 2016. In the summer of 2018 Mr Coote was promoted to the Select Group 1 of Premier League referees.
The last time Mr Coote bossed a Fulham game was in March 2020 when we drew 1-1 away at Bristol City . Mr Coote booked two players from each team, Harry Arter in the 41st minute for dissent, after he had a pop at the assistant referee, and Denis Odoi in the 48th minute also for dissent, after reacting angrily to David Coote awarding a free-kick against him.
In the following season in April 2019 Mr Coote bossed Fulham when we won 1-0 away at Bournemouth in the Premier League. Ref Coote booked four players, three from Fulham, Calum Chambers (59,f), Aleksandar Mitrovic (75,f), Sergio Rico (90+1,tw).
In March 2019 he also refed a Fulham game when we were beaten 3-1 at Leicester City. Mr Coote booked two players both from Fulham, Babel (55,f), Bryan (60,f).
Prior to the Leicester game in March Mr Coote bossed the December 2018 game when we drew at home against Leicester City. Ref Coote kept his cards in his pocket.
Earlier in the season Mr Coote visited Craven Cottage when we beat Burnley 4-2. He booked three players, two from Fulham, Shurrle (59,f), Bettinelli (90+1,tw).
Mr Coote has been reasonably lucky for Fulham overseeing more Fulham victories than draws and defeats even in the Premiership.
Tottenham were last bossed by Ref Coote in their 5-4 away defeat at Everton in January 2021. He booked four players, three from Bristol City, and sent off a United player in the 59th minute.
Last season, 2019/2020, he reffed 27 games, dished out 99 yellows, an above average 3.7 yellows per game and an 2 reds. This season, 2019/2020, so far he has refed 21 games and shown 81 yellows, an average of 3.9 per game, and 1 reds.
His busiest game recently was Tottenham's 5-4 away defeat at Everton when Mr Coote booked seven players four from Everton and Winks, Alli and Kane from Tottenham.
