Fulham defender Chris Coleman, horrifically injured in a car crash only
14 months ago, completed an amazing recovery last night by playing for Fulham
reserves.
And the Wales defender, after easing through the game against Charlton
at Woking, said: "That was the most important 45 minutes of my life."
Coleman's football career looked over after he broke his right leg in
three places when he piled up his Jaguar car. He added: "I was nervous
and I was only supposed to play 25 minutes or so but I felt fine.
"It was good to get out there and the injury was no problem. I was
a bit tentative at first but then the adrenalin kicked in."
However, Coleman is realistic and he admitted: "I still have a long
way to go. I probably need another 10 or 12 reserve games. I don't expect
to be back in the first team this season."
