chelsea v Fulham - Squad News
last updated Wednesday 06th March 2002, 9:45 AM
Fulham
Fulham manager Jean Tigana had concerns over Sean Davis after he picked
up a thigh injury against Liverpool, but the 22-year-old will be fit for
the chelsea clash on Wednesday. Davis had heavy bruising to his thigh, but
he has recovered sufficiently to take his place in the squad.
Lee Clark has been ruled out of Fulham's West London derby with Chelsea
at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. The 29-year-old limped off with a
calf strain towards the end of Saturday's Premiership defeat against Liverpool
at Craven Cottage. Clark was sidelined for over two months with an Achilles
problem, but the club have confirmed that he has not suffered a recurrence
of that injury. "Lee Clark is not available for the Chelsea match, but this
is a different injury to before and we hope he will return soon," a club
spokesman stated.
Aside from Clark, Tigana has no other injury concerns.
Although the Cottagers will be missing midfielder Sylvain Legwinski who
is definitely out as he has amassed five yellow cards and will serve a one-match
suspension.

The Blues' defence is understrength due to the absence of John Terry through
injury although chelsea will be pleased to see fit again captain Marcel
Desailly re-joining the squad. Emmanuel Petit will continue to partner William
Gallas in the centre of defence while Graeme Le Saux can expect to remain
on left side of midfield. Mario Stanic is suspended and therefore drops
out.
Danish winger Jesper Gronkjaer could be in
contention for a place in Chelsea's starting line up after playing for more
than an hour in the reserve team win over Southampton on Monday. Goalkeeper
Mark Bosnich also played in that game and could feature on the bench.

Top Guns
Fulham go to visit local rivals chelsea with a team and style of play far
better than the Fulham Broadway team apart from one small difference, goals.
Which ever other aspect of the teams you examine Fulham are the better.
In terms of passing and tackling the Cottagers are, according to opta stats,
second only to Man Utd. Aspects where Fulham are not in the top three they
are still better than the cash strapped blues. Players such as Edwin van
der Sar, Steve Finnan, John Collins, Sylvain Legwinski are Steed Malbranque
all in the Premiership top 10 of their catagory. Unfortunately in relationship
to goals the blues, specifically Hasselbaink and Gudjohnsen, are well in
front of Jean Tigana's squad.
Other than the goal scoring department chelsea's best are Lampard, top passer
but still below Fulham's top 4 passers, Petit, top crosser but again below
Fulham's top 3, William Gallas top tackler but yes you've guessed worse
than Fulham's top 4.
If Fulham's attackers were to hit form then it would not just be chelsea's
share price that would be heading south.
