Championship MatchDay 12 Wrap-up
|
Fulham finished Match Day Twelve in third place five points off
the top after a 4-1 victory over
QPR at Craven Cottage in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off. Aleksandar Mitrovic, the leading scorer in the Championship with 12 goals, scored twice, either side of Lyndon Dykes’ reply, before Bobby Decordova-Reid and Antonee Robinson added further goals for the hosts.

Scott Parker dedicated a dominant 2-0
Bournemouth victory at
Bristol City to David Brooks as the player starts his treatment for cancer. Jordan Zemura settle the outcome of a one-sided game in first-half stoppage time as Bournemouth's unbeaten start to the season extended to a 12th game
In the Friday evening game
West Brom struck late to see off
Birmingham 1-0 in the west Midlands derby. Valerien Ismael's men were frustrated for long periods at The Hawthorns, but Karlan Grant's late goal - his fourth in as many games - was enough for the Baggies to get back to winning ways.
Coventry are fourth after rescuing a 2-2 draw at
Blackburn, where Joe Rothwell and Sam Gallagher netted for Rovers in the first half. A Tyler Walker effort reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute and then a Thomas Kaminski own goal, after Liam Kelly hit a post, drew things level six minutes later.
Stoke, who lie fifth, led at S
heffield United
via Jacob Brown’s 55th-minute goal before late strikes from Lys Mousset and
David McGoldrick gave the Blades a 2-1 win.

Huddersfield moved into the play-off places as Tom Lees’s early header and a Duane Holmes goal secured a 2-0 home win over
Hull.
Grant McCann said his Hull side had paid the price for a lack of cutting edge. “We gave ourselves a mountain to climb. Between boxes the play was good, but we have to be more ruthless at this level. We don’t feel we are that far away.”
A point outside the top six are
Reading after they won 1-0 against third-bottom
Barnsley courtesy of a 77th-minute John Swift finish.
Peterborough remain 2nd bottom following a 2-0 loss at
Middlesbrough, where Paddy McNair scored a penalty and Josh Coburn got on the scoresheet in the closing stages. Neil Warnock praised his injury-ravaged side’s display, saying: “A lot of them are being asked to play out of position, we have nothing else, so I just asked them to enjoy the battle The squad is decimated, it is difficult. That’s life.”

Misfiring
Preston failed to give their late owner Trevor Hemmings a fitting send-off victory after a frustrating 0-0 draw with
Derby at Deepdale. A bumper crowd of 18,092 packed into the ground as the Lancashire club paid an emotional tribute to Hemmings, a huge name in football and horse racing who died aged 86 on Monday evening.
Nottingham Forest made it five games unbeaten and 13 points from 15 under Steve Cooper as they won 2-1 at home against
Blackpool, with Lewis Grabban hitting the winner around the hour mark after Brennan Johnson’s opener for the hosts had been cancelled out by Jerry Yates.
A Harry Cornick double gave
Luton a 2-0 win at
Millwall, for whom Jed Wallace had a penalty saved by Simon Sluga with six minutes of normal time to go.
Swansea piled the pressure on Cardiff manager Mick McCarthy as a 3-0 thrashing in the South Wales derby raised yet more questions about his future. Cardiff's sixth consecutive defeat was their most painful in a game where they rarely laid a glove on their nearest rivals, and saw less than 30 per cent of the ball en route to a comprehensive defeat.
