The long running saga of Jimmy Bullard's efforts to obtain an increase in salary at Fulham have culminated in the midfielder being transfered to Hull City this afternoon.

Many Fulham fans will be disappointed with the news particularly after The Cottagers supported Bullard during a long layoff through injury.

However an offer of £5m for a 30 year-old, particularly with the worry of possible future problems with his injured knee, would be hard to refuse in the real world. Hull are reported to have offered Bullard between £45k and £50k a week in comparison with the £25k he was earning at Fulham.

Hull City statement

The Tigers have completed the signing of midfielder Jimmy Bullard from Fulham for a club record fee of £5million.

The relevant paperwork was completed earlier this afternoon and Bullard has signed a contract until 2013.

Speaking about the signing of Bullard, Tigers boss Phil Brown said:

"We're trying to improve a squad that has been competing in the Premier League and that just needed a bit of bolstering.

"I think this signing shows everybody just how serious Paul Duffen, Phil Brown and Hull City are with regards to this year's Premier League.

Fulham FC statement
Fulham can confirm that a bid of £5m from Hull City has been received for Jimmy Bullard which, after careful consideration, the Club has accepted.

The Club has always made it clear that it was not looking to sell any of its players. However, since signing in 2006 for £2.5m, Jimmy has made a total of 39 starts for the Club and at the age of 30, Jimmy made it clear that he was looking for a vastly increased contract, and explored opportunities to meet his expectations.

The Club thanks him for his valued contribution and wishes him well for the future.
