Fulham's £10.6m man Bryan Ruiz has admitted that he is finding it hard to cope with the pace of the Premier League.

The attacking midfielder signed on deadline day from Dutch club FC Twente has yet to score for Martin Jol's side.

Ruiz was also the villain in Fulham's Carling Cup defeat at Chelsea last month.

He fluffed the crucial spot-kick as the Cottagers were dumped out on penalties by their west London rivals.

Costa Rica international Ruiz, Fulham's second costliest signing ever, has started just one league game and made three appearances as a sub.

Fulham failed to win any of their first six league games.

But Jol's men broke their duck with a spectacular 6-0 thumping of QPR last Sunday. But the 26-year-old said: "I've not had a comfortable time so far.

"When I played in Holland, I used to have an extra second to think. That makes a big difference.

"I am placed under greater pressure and get less time to act on the pitch.

"You also get more one-on-one situations in Dutch football.

"Here, you straightaway get two players breathing down your neck.

"That is the major difference between the Premier League and the Eredivisie.

"But I know that I will get my share of chances."

Jol is refusing to panic about Ruiz's early struggles and is confident his big-money buy will eventually come good.

He said: "Bryan Ruiz is a quality player. Of course I have to be patient with him and so do the fans."
