Not so long ago, there was optimism at Blackpool that this season would conclude with another promotion.
Yet where once existed legitimate poise following the club's best start to a league campaign in 57 years, now resides a palpable nervousness.
Blackpool are as many points away from relegation in the Championship as they are from the play-offs while hopes of progression in the FA Cup were halted here with an injury-time header credited to Brede Hangeland.
The club have no manager and this week began with supporters promoting an action group that aims to dislodge Karl Oyston from his controlling influence in the boardroom.
Oyston is hopeful that Karl Robinson, 32, of MK Dons will accept his invitation for an interview after being given permission to speak to him by chairman Pete Winkelman.
A return north might be too tempting for the Liverpudlian to pass up.
If Robinson declines, Nick Barmby and Billy Davies will be considered.
Nathan Delfouneso appeared to have secured a fourth-round tie with Manchester United or West Ham when he fired into the empty net after Mark Schwarzer's mistake.
"I thought we'd taken it," said caretaker Steve Thompson, who has also applied for the manager's position.
Instead with the last kick of the game, substitute Kieran Richardson zipped in an equaliser to force an extra 30 minutes where the visitors prevailed.
"I'm relieved," admitted Fulham manager Martin Jol.
