Betting Odds for weekend Premiership - 14.09.02

last updated Thursday 12th September 2002, 10:38 PM
The Premiership returns in force again this weekend after a midweek programme that saw the defeat of Man U, Liverpool lose a 2 goal lead, Chelsea fight back after going behind twice and West Ham losing 1-0 at home to West Brom.

It also saw a scintillating performance from Fulham who never gave up against in-form Tottenham. Spurs were fighting to regain top spot in the Premiership from Arsenal by beating The Cottagers but despite going two up Mr. Hoddle's squad were eventually beaten 3-2 with the final Fulham goal coming deep into injury time.

On the weekend some of the favourites, highlighted in red below, have difficult challenges to face. Liverpool have twice already had to settle for a draw after going in front and on Saturday they face Bolton still on a high after beating Man U at Old Trafford. Everton are at home to Middlesbrough who have developed into a difficult squad to beat and Everton have lost their last two games. Man City, newly promoted from the 1st division, are unbeaten at home so far this year and Blackburn have only won away once so far but Mr. Souness has to get amongst the points soon or his team will have difficulties avoiding the scrum at the bottom of the league. Man City must be on Souness's should beat list.

Another favourite looking somewhat suspect must be Sunderland who face Fulham on Saturday. Sunderland have lost at home to Everton, have scored just twice in six games while shipping five. Their tackling, passing and crossing are close to Fulham's rate but shooting and scoring are very poor so unless The Cottagers intend to surrender without a scrap they must be able to add Sunderland's scalp to that of Tottenham and Bolton.
