Jarred Gillett is a 33 year old Australian referee who has been officiating for 10 years. He has now become the first foreign referee to work in the EFL.
Gillett joined the Select Group 2 in England at the start of the 2019/20 season after taking up a post-doctoral research position at Liverpool John Moores University, where he will specialise in research on children with cerebral palsy.
On 15 April 2019 Gillett was selected to take charge of his first fixture in the EFL.
He was chosen to officiate the EFL League Two match between Morecambe FC and Cheltenham Town FC on 22 April 2019. Gillett officiated his first Championship match, Blackburn Rovers v Swansea City, on the final day of the 2018/19 season.
Ref Gillett was listed to boss Fulham's opening game of this season but was substituted by Andy Davies, so he has never bossed a Fulham game before and he has never bossed a Birmingham game either.
Last season Mr Gillett refed 3 Football League games and dished out 12 yellows and no reds, so an average 4 yellows per game. In 10 games so far this season he has dished out 32 yellows and no reds.
Mr Gillett's busiest games so far was the 0-0 draw between Fleetword and Bristol Rovers, last season, when he yellow carded eight players, six from Bristol Rovers and two for Fleetwood players. He also dished out eight yellows in the August game between Blackburn and Middlesbrough, five of them to Blackburn players.
