Aston Villa (0) 1-0 (0) Fulham

A late David Button howler ended Fulham's unbeaten away run as the Whites lost 1-0 to Aston Villa on Saturday.

In a low-key first half, only Sone Aluko threatened for the Whites , while Jordan Ayew caused significant problems for the visitors.

But it was Jonathan Kodjia's volley in the last ten minutes which sealed Fulham's fate, one which had been increasingly likely as the game wore on.

The result will have left manager Slavisa Jokanovic smarting after the two penalties in midweek left the Whites having to accept a point against Norwich.

Villa's summer signing Kodjia forced David Button into a smart save early on after a powerful shot towards the near post.

The hosts forced Button into another save on 27 minutes, when Ayew's 25 yard shot was kept out well by the Whites' man.

Sone Aluko provided the visitors with their only threatening shot of the opening half when he spun Nathan Baker on the right of the box, but his effort was comfortably saved by Gollini.

On the stroke of half time, an Ayew free kick forced Button into another save, before the Cottagers threated on the break.

Michael Madl, returning to the lineup for the first time in almost a month, might have put the Whites in front from a 47th minute corner, only to mistime his shot and the ball drifted wide.

On loan Chelsea forward Lucas Piazon carved out an opportunity for Jokanovic's men when he got to the touchline and rolled a ball across the box, but no Fulham man was on hand to tap home.

Button won a duel with Ayew again on 65 minutes when the striker's free kick was tipped over the bar by the former Brentford man.

But the hosts finally forced a lethal Fulham mistake on 80 minutes, with Button conceding possession some 30 yards out from goal, and Kodjia finishing off the break away.

Ayew missed a chance moments later to finish the game when he blasted wide, and the Whites couldn't test the Villa keeper.
