Fulham's offer of help, from the man who masterminded
France's soccer renaissance, to Howard Wilkinson has been snubbed.
The FA's under-pressure technical director was offered the chance to pick
the brains of Fulham's assistant coach Christian Damiano - the man who raised
such stars as Emmanuel Petit, Nicolas Anelka, Patrick Vieira and Thierry
Henry when he ran the French youth team.
The FA want a national centre to nurture young talent based on the famed
French football academy, but England Under-21 boss Wilkinson insisted he
needed no French input - to the amazement of FA chief Adam Crozier.
Wilkinson's arrogance is causing uneasiness at the FA. Last week he tried
to take credit for Sven Goran Eriksson's success, just days before masterminding
another crushing Under-21 defeat for England, against Greece.
