Nationwide Division One matches, for the week, ended today with a 2-0 victory for Grimsby over West Brom who had hoped to grab fourth place. That means, for various reasons, not one of the top seven clubs in Division One managed to win this week.
Saturday saw Fulham draw away at Sheffield Wednesday, a side with
one win and one draw to their credit at home so far this season. Wednesday went
ahead in the first half but Fulham replied with a headed goal from Saha in the
opening moments of the second half.
Bazza Hayles followed up with a brilliant goal beating three players before
putting Fulham 2-1 up. Rufus gave away a free kick and Wednesday took advantage
and made it 2-2. Quinn was sent off for a series of bad fouls and Melville score
his first goal of the season to put Fulham 3-2 up.
It seemed that we had a death wish because not content with being one goal
up, playing ten men the same Melville gave away a free kick and Wednesday put
that one away also. So it went 3-3 and that was the final score.
Fortunately Watford threw away a two goal advantage to draw 2-2
at Wolves and Birmingham drew 1-1 away at Portsmouth so the top three positions
are unchanged.
