Weekend Premiership fixtures and details

last updated Friday 22nd November 2002, 1:31 PM
Fulham entertain Liverpool on Saturday in a crucial game with elements of the media and their fellow travellers queuing up with negative comment about the Chairman, Manager and Squad. At every turn there are stories seemingly designed to unsettle the club. Change, certainly as tumultuous as that at Fulham over the last few seasons, is hard to cope with and people who have an ulterior motive or see the glass as only half full are obviously happier stressing the negatives.

The Cottagers have played more games than any squad in the Premiership and have had one of the most difficult opening 14 Premiership games in the league having already played Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea and Tottenham at home with away games at Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Everton, Southampton and Aston Villa. However they continue to surprise when playing against top footballing sides and in Europe and hopefully this weekend the Lads will make a few critics eat their words.

Elsewhere Man Utd are at home to Newcastle and cannot afford a further slip up if they want to be in the Champions League next year. Table topping Arsenal are away at Southampton and must do better than Fulham did in order to retain the top spot. Chelsea will need to win at Bolton if they want to keep up with the leaders and if they do Bolton will be well and truly in the mire along with West Brom. The Baggies have to win away at Everton to stand any chance of getting off the bottom of the Premiership with a bore draw being the most likely outcome. West Ham are away at Aston Villa and if they don't put in a good performance Manager Glenn will come under even more pressure.
