Weekend D1 scores & stats - Fulham v Bolton

last updated Sunday 04th March 2001, 4:00 PM

Fulham Football Club are the top club in the Nationwide league.

The modern Fulham team likes to make the fans sweat just as much as the old teams did. Today the game was ours for the taking after a beautiful goal from Barry Hayles ended a flowing move but Bolton were allowed back in and then they got a softish goal from a very doubtful freekick decision. The Ref was one of the worse to grace the Cottage this year.

Fulham had 12 goal attempts against Bolton's 2, hit the woodwork twice, had a number of chances cleared off the line by Bolton defenders and earned 12 corners against Bolton's 2 all underlining Fulham supremacy throughout the game. What the stats also show is that we converted 1 of our 12 goal attempts and Bolton converted 1 of their two chances.

The foul on Luis Boa Morte, which led him to remonstrate with the fouler and get sent off, was nasty and dangerous deserving a red rather than a yellow. Holdsworth kicked Sean Davis while he was on the ground
right in front of the linesman and the linesman, the Ref and the fourth official saw nothing.

Fulham played better than in other recent games with more passing taking place and a new tactic of chipping the ball over the last line of the opposition's defence for strikers to run on to it.

The Fulhamweb prediction for this match was 2-0 to the Cottagers with a crowd of 18500 it ended 1-1 in front of 16,468.

Saturday
Birmingham and Blackburn kept up the pressure on Bolton with both teams winning their matches on Friday and Saturday. Blackburn are one point behind Bolton with a game in hand while Birmingham are four points behind with two games in hand.

Our next game is at the Cottage next Saturday and we play QPR.

Say ... We are top of Division One after two thirds of the campaign, have lost only four games, have the best goal difference and the leading scorer in the Premier and Nationwide leagues.
