Thatcher ref to boss Fulham game

last updated Tuesday 21st November 2006, 11:45 PM
Dermot GallagherDermot Gallagher(Banbury, Oxon)
Dermot Gallagher is a Premiership League veteran, having established himself on the country's top referee list back in 1992. He made the FIFA roster two years later in 1994. Gallagher is one of the few top referees that actually earns a living through football, albeit at a lower level. The 42-year-old Banbury resident is commercial manager for non-league Thame United.

He began refereeing in the Banbury Junior League back in 1978 and progressed remarkably quickly through the ranks, becoming a Football League linesman in 1985. Gallagher's career highlight so far was taking charge of the 1996 FA Cup Final - the year he also officiated at the African Cup-Winners Cup final and the Euro '96 tournament.

Of the 13 Fulham games Mr Gallagher has bossed since 1999 we have won 7 drawn 3 and lost 4 which makes him one of our luckier Refs.

Referee Stats - 2006/2007

Dermot Gallagher is one of the more consistent Ref's in the game and has always been one of the less whistle and card happy Refs. Unfortunatelythis season so far Mr Gallagher has been keen to blow his whistle at every opportunity. At least he has stayed true to form in other areas of his performance. Of course his demotion following the Thatcher assault would not have encouraged him to over react to avoid another demotion.

In previous seasons Dermot Gallagher had beenone of the more even handed Refs when it came to dealing with visiting teams. However this season Dermot has clearly taken against home squads.Surely he will relent on his visit to Craven Cottage.

The match was decided by Gallagher missing a penalty area foul on McBride by N'Gotty who was freed up to head the ball powerfully towards the Fulham goal. As Claus Jensen chested the ball off the lineit clipped his arm which amazingly Gallagher saw and out came a red card in the 12th minute. Thank you ref.
