not ready for Fulham

Teddy Sheringham, the season's top player,
is on the point of bowing out of Manchester United with a third Premiership
winner's medal and returning to Tottenham.
After months of agonising over his next move, the former England striker,
35, has rejected a move to promoted Fulham and is understood to have opted
for a two-year Spurs deal on a Bosman free transfer.
Sheringham, who is expected to confirm
his decision to United manager Sir Alex Ferguson shortly, turned down
a one-year Old Trafford contract worth around £35,000 a week but
continued to explore ways of staying in an effort to extend the most rewarding
spell of his career.
Tottenham's overtures, however, could not
have been better timed and have enabled the Londoner to come home with
his reputation as one of Ferguson's shrewdest signings still firmly intact.
Sheringham has decided that ending his
Old Trafford career with three of the game's most glittering prizes -
a league winner's medal plus Football Writers' and Player's Player of
the Year awards - is more appealing than risking an uncertain role in
the shadow of £19million signing Ruud van Nistelrooy next season.
