Fulham have an unwanted injury scare in the run up to the London derby against
West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday Steve Marlet, Fulham's record £11.5m
signing, was taken off at half time during the Club's 2-1 win over Southampton
last Saturday. Later it was reported that Steve received a kick to the knee
joint.
Another knee injury, sustained while playing with the French squad against
Chile, delayed the French international striker's Premiership debut by some
two weeks, when he eventually debuted against Arsenal on the 15th September.
The two injuries do not appear to be linked and the latest of the two is
not regarded to be serious and there is no damage to knee ligaments. Steve's
early substitution would seem to have been of a precautionary nature and
the decision was made easier for Jean Tigana as he had Louis Saha waiting
on the sub's bench.
After the Southampton game Steve said "I received a ball, took control
of it, and then tried to turn and run," he said, "Unfortunately
the opponent, as he tackled me, caught me just under the knee. I don't think
it's too serious but it's very painful at the moment.
Manager Tigana had to wait until today (Tuesday) for the club physiotherapist
Jason Palmer to decide that the injury did not require any further treatment.
However the player is likely to be given a fitness test before Saturday's
game but at the moment he may be doubtful.
