Double Player of the Year Teddy Sheringham
has, according to Fulham boss Jean Tigana, demanded a two year, £40,000
a week, contract in order to leave Manchester United.
Tigana, a former agent, has now pulled the plug on any prospective deal
for the 35 year old, leaving the door wide open for a return to Spurs.
With just six weeks left on his current £25,000 a week deal, Sheringham
looks as though he'll reject United's offer of a one year contract for a
move to join Glenn Hoddle at White Hart Lane, but whether Spurs' owners
ENIC will sanction and £4m wage packet remains to be seen.
Tigana said: "You have to pinch yourself to believe it.
"Agents who think Fulham are going to spend here, there and everywhere
because it is the club of a multi-millionnaire can stay at home.
"We were recently offered Sheringham, a 35-year-old player, with a
contract of £2m a season over two years and Salomon Olembe, the Nantes
midfield player, for £10m. But I handle Mr Al Fayed's money as if
it were my own." |
