Saha to go home

last updated Tuesday 02nd August 2005, 9:37 AM
Former Fulham striker Louis Saha’s nightmare move to Man Utd from Fulham seems to have reached it’s climax with a possible move to Monaco on the cards following United’s reported move for Michael Owen.

Monaco’s coach Didier Deschamps needs reinforcements and Saha needs regular first team football to have a chance of playing in next summer’s World Cup for France.

Saha has had a tough time playing in English top-flight football, failing to impress both at Newcastle United and now at Manchester United. He experienced a short period of success with Fulham where coach Chris Coleman’s tactics of 4-5-1 may have exaggerate his goal scoring ability.

Man Utd coach Alex Ferguson’s much reported ability, as a football guru seems to have deserted him as far as Saha is concerned. He has been unable to encourage Saha to play up to the standard seen at Fulham and has ended up paying over the odds for the striker.

Most fans at Fulham are unlikely to shed any tears for Saha and his troubles because, despite his contribution to The Cottagers elevation to Premiership status, his behaviour during the acrimonious and destabilising mid-season transfer to Man Utd was perceived as unprofessional. Fulham’s goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar’s summer move to Man Utd should be a learning experience for Saha on how to conduct a transfer.
