Fulham are hoping to hijack Peter Crouch’s £12m move to Sunderland, with Roy Hodgson keen to persuade the Portsmouth striker to sign for Fulham
Peter Crouch will hold talks with Fulham boss Roy Hodgson as the Cottagers look to hijack Sunderland’s deal for the lanky striker.
The England international flew into the North-East on Thursday to hold talks with the Black Cats over a proposed £12 million move to the Stadium of Light.
But Hodgson, who returns from a pre-season tour of Australia on Friday, is desperate to land the wantaway forward, and will do everything he can to persuade Crouch to sign for Fulham.
However, the Cottagers boss conceded it would be tough to sign the 6ft 7in striker, given the number of clubs battling to secure his services.
Hodgson said: "Crouch is a player we're interested in but so are others."
Crouch’s proposed move to Fulham could also determine whether Bobby Zamora is allowed to speak to Hull City.
On Wednesday the club confirmed they had accepted a £5 million offer for Zamora but Hodgson later said he did not want to lose the former West Ham striker.
