Uriah Rennie - Sheffield Rennie wasn't the most popular of characters when he made his debut in the Premiership League back in the 1999/00 season. His tendency to dish out cards and come up with unlikely decisions had some managers riled to say the least. The Authorities seemed to agree as well as Mr Rennie was demoted to the Nationwide for a season.
But now the 45-year-old community liaison manager is back into the fold. His return brought a swift intake of breath from some managers, but Rennie performed to such a good standard in the Football League in his year out that the Premiership League just had to include him in their list. Rennie is now also a recognised FIFA official and is regarded as one of the fitness refs on the list.
Even though Ref Rennie has had just four games in the Premiership (with 9 other Football League games) his whistle blowing rate is virtually identical with that of the past two seasons. Interestingly Rennie has yo-yoed over the last two seasons from being one of the busiest yellow carders to one of the least busiest. This season he has increased the number of cards issued but it is still below the league average Ref Rennie has never been a big red card or penalty man and has not issued any so far this season. Last season he issued one red and gave just two penalties in 15 games.
Ref Rennie is one of the few Refs to treat home teams worse than visiting teams. Hopefully he maintains this attitude when we playa t Boro.
