Premiership Match Day 13 - Wrap

last updated Monday 21st November 2005, 12:51 PM

Fulham played well in their Match Day 13 game, in the 2005/2006 Premiership campaign, but returned to London from Middlesbrough pointless. The Cottagers were without Captain Luis Boa Morte due to a one match disciplinary suspension after collecting 5 yellows since the start of the season and Claus Jensen because of injury. Tomasz Radzinski kept his place and Sylvain Legwinski was brought in to stiffen the midfield following a long layoff through injury.Collins John got Fulham off to a blinding start with a goal of the month candidate in the 9th minute and The Cottagers were able to keep a clean sheet until the 64th minute when Boro equalised. In the following 15 minutes Papa Bouba Diop put The Londoners back in front and Boro scored another two goals to take all the points. On goals conceded Fulham have the 4th worse defence in the Premiership and the determination and positional play displayed in the closing stages of at least two of yesterday's goals should raise questions. Once again Fulham left the North East angry with the standard of refereeing for the second year running. This time TV replays show that Boro's second goal was offside but the officials were unable to spot it. Perhaps Mr Rennie should get a job he can actually do properly. Elsewhere struggling Portsmouth, Sunderland and Everton were were all beaten leaving Fulham 2 points above the relegation zone and 6 points below the next highest squad. The Holland international controlled the ball on his chest, turned and fired home. And Van Nistelrooy grabbed a third in the 85th minute to put the game beyond a battling Charlton side.

Tottenham 1-1 West Ham - (KO 13.00 - Sunday - 20 November 05)

West Ham celebrated a last-gasp equaliser at Tottenham with The Hammers boss claiming it would have been an injustice if the home side had clung on.Tottenham boss Martin Jol explained that leaving former West Ham striker Jermain Defoe on the bench until the last 10 minutes was because he felt it about time Robbie Keane was given his chance to impress.Jol would not be drawn on tasteless chants from the West Ham fans towards Egyptian goalscorer Mido in the second half.

Middlesbrough 3-2 Fulham - (KO 16.00 - Sunday - 20 November 05)

Middlesbrough match-winner Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink admitted he thought the equaliser he inadvertently set up for Aiyegbeni Yakubu was offside. Fulham were leading 2-1 at the time after Papa Bouba Diop had put the visitors ahead for the second time following goals from Collins John and Boro teenager James Morrison.

Birminghamv Bolton - (KO 20.00 - Monday - 21 November 05)

Booed off in their last home game against Everton, a result which left them with just one point from 18 at St Andrews this season, Birmingham hardly look betting material for Monday night's clash against Bolton.

The visitors are chasing a sixth successive win in all competitions. But, despite their well documented problems, the time may be right for Steve Bruce's men to grab that confidence-boosting first home win. There were real signs of improvement in their unfortunate 1-0 loss at Newcastle last time out. And with a host of first-team regulars available again, Birmingham look capable of taking all three points.

Although Bolton's five-match winning run looks scary on first glance, we have to remember that four of those wins came at the Reebok. The one away win came at a faltering Charlton side while their previous two away fixtures in the Premiership saw them lose 5-1 at Chelsea and 2-1 at Wigan.

True, those two sides are the top two in the table but Bolton are a little more vulnerable on the road than initial impressions suggest.

verdict: Birmingham 1 Bolton 0
