Post Match Reaction - Coleman worried

Fulham boss Chris Coleman

Fulham boss Chris Coleman fears a return to the poor performances of last year after Fulham's 2-1 defeat to Blackburn.

A low grade first half performance did not help The Cottagers as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Ewood Park - although both goals conceded were stunning volleys.

"I've never been involved in a game where there were two goals of such high quality," said Coleman.

"But I'm not making excuses. We lost the game in the first half by being too flimsy and not taking enough responsibility.

"We came out in the second half, got an equaliser and I thought we were the only team that would go on to win it.

"But if you keep making mistakes then you are going to lose the game - simple as that.

"We've been beaten by two great strikes, but the first half looked like the Fulham of last season.

"That worried me and I'm not going to accept that.

"Unfortunately, it's two games into the season and we've already got eight guys in the treatment room so we are stretched.

"We're not making excuses and we've got to do better than that."

Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes

Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes paid testament to the wonderful volleys that sealed Blackburn's 2-1 victory over Fulham.

Two scintillating volleys, the first from Morten Gamst Pedersen, and the winner from Tugay were enough to give Hughes' side a first win of the season.

"Stunning goals, absolutely stunning," said Hughes.

"The two goals today were wonderful and would have been in any era.

"It was important that we bounced back after the defeat to West Ham, especially after the second half of that which wasn't acceptable.

"We came out today and showed great resolve. We controlled the game from the start and continued throughout.

"The quality of the goals was exceptional and we were more than comfortable.

"I thought we had the measure of Fulham and didn't allow them any foothold. We won the game comfortably."

Hughes also commented on the fitness of Craig Bellamy's thigh problem.

"We've had it scanned and not going to clear up in next three or four weeks unfortunately," added Hughes.

"It is a major blow because he's a key player for us.

"But we have to get on with it and today we showed we can cope whilst he is away."
