Milan tipped to take Prso

last updated Wednesday 24th December 2003, 12:33 PM
Milan appear to have won the race to land Monaco forward Dado Prso, according to the Croatian international's agent. Premiership trio Portsmouth, Fulham and Newcastle United, along with Scottish champions Rangers, have all been keeping tabs on the 29-year-old.

But they have been pipped in the race for Prso's signature by reigning European champions Milan, who are due to wrap up the swoop in January's transfer window.

Prso is out of contract at the end of the season and Monaco are cashing in on the Balkan hit-man, who has scored five times in the UEFA Champions League this season, in the New Year.

According to Prso's representative Marko Naletelic, discussions with Milan have progressed smoothly and the deal could signal the departure from San Siro of Danish attacker Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Naletelic is not anticipating any complications in finalising the transfer but did reveal Milan's fellow Serie A side Sampdoria are Prso's back-up option.

"Prso will be going to Italy," Naletelic told Croatian daily Sportske Novosti.

"The negotiations with Milan are in process as the Italian side are very keen to get their hands on him.

"Still, we can say that the possibility of completing the transfer is very, very high.

"The second option will be Sampdoria but only if the negotiations with Milan fail."
