Match Stats - Fulham v Portsmouth 03.04.05

last updated Friday 01st April 2005, 3:09 PM
Big match facts from BBCSport FULHAM and Portsmouth meet in a vital Sunday lunchtime kick off. Only one point separates these clubs, which are both hovering just above the relegation zone, and both are on the longest current run winless run in the Premiership of five matches. The Cottagers, who have a game in hand on their rivals, have not scored in four League and Cup games - three in the Premiership.
  • Chris Coleman's side have not lost at their Thames-side home since an odd goal in five defeat by Birmingham on 28 December. Conversely the Londoners have not claimed maximum points at the Cottage since 16 January, when a 90th minute Papa Bouba Diop goal proved the difference against relegation threatened West Brom. Since then in home League encounters, Fulham have drawn 1-1 with Aston Villa and 0-0 with Charlton.
  • The Cottagers dealt Portsmouth a salutary lesson in last season's corresponding fixture. Pompey failed to make their early chances count, while Fulham made the most of theirs with two goals from Louis Saha - a blistering shot and a perfect header. It was the Londoners' third home League victory in succession over the south coast club.
  • Not won in four League and Cup games.
  • Drawn one and lost three since beating Derby 4-2 after extra time in the FA Cup Fourth Round replay at Loftus Road on 12 February.
  • Winless in five Premiership outings.
  • Drawn two and lost three League engagements since defeating Birmingham 1-2 at St Andrews on 22 January.
  • The eclipse of the Rams is Fulham's only win in eight League and Cup games.
  • Drawn six Premiership matches this season. Only Chelsea and Liverpool have finished level less often (five games each).
  • Lost 15 games in the highest echelon. Crystal Palace and Norwich have each lost 16.
  • Lost the lead only four times in top flight games this term.
  • Fourth bottom in the Premiership's "Last Six Current Form" table with five points out of the possible 18.
  • Conceded more penalties than any other club in Premiership matches this season (six). Undefeated in six home games in all competitions.
  • Won four and drawn two League and Cup matches at the Cottage since losing by the odd goal in five to Birmingham in the Premiership on 28 December.
  • Lost six home highest League duels. Only Crystal Palace and Norwich have lost more (seven each).
  • Scored 16 home goals in the top table. Only West Brom (13) and Crystal Palace (15) have netted on fewer occasions in front of the home faithful.
  • Conceded 21 top flight goals at Craven Cottage. Only Norwich have shipped more home goals in the highest division (31).
  • Luis BOA MORTE is one goal shy of 50 goals for English clubs (four for Arsenal, one for Southampton and 44 for Fulham).
PORTSMOUTH have been in freefall post Harry Redknapp. After beating Middlesbrough on the opening day of February, they lost four on the bounce, but did hold Newcastle to a 1-1 draw last time out at Fratton Park on 19 March.
  • Pompey are striving for only their third maximum away from home this season, and fifth of all-time on the road in the Premiership. In 12 matches since Velimir Zajec took the reigns officially, the Hampshire club have managed two victories. The Croatian relinquishes the role at the end of the season to revert to his role of chief executive.
  • The Hampshire club held on for their first Premiership win of the season after an Aiyegbeni Yakubu hat-trick helped them outscore Fulham in a seven-goal thriller in this season's reverse fixture at Fratton Park. It gives Pompey the chance of a 'double' over Fulham for the first time in 53 years, since registering three in a row between 1950 and 1952. Portsmouth have already beaten Crystal Palace, home and away this season
  • Lost four of the last five - all Premiership.
  • Lost eight of the last 11 Premier League engagements.
  • Looking for a fifth top League victory post Harry Redknapp.
  • Won two of 12 Premiership matches, since Velimir Zajec was appointed manager.
  • Like Fulham, lost 15 Premiership matches this season. Only Crystal Palace and Norwich have been beaten more often (16 times each).
  • Won all four top flight games in which clean sheets have been kept. Only Norwich have kept fewer clean sheets in the top division (three).
  • Lost all eight League games in which failed to score.
  • Gone in all square at half time on 19 occasions in top League games.
  • Opponents have scored first in 20 top division encounters this term, and only two of those 20 have been won (v West Brom and Middlesbrough - both at home). Only Norwich have suffered that fate more often (22).
  • Next to bottom of the Premiership's "Last Six Current Form" table with four points from the 18.
  • Gone 45 games since a goalless draw - the longest such sequence in the Premiership. The most recent no score stalemate was home to relegated Wolves on 31 January last year.
  • Drawn level from being in arrears on 13 occasions in top flight matches this term - that's more often than any other club.
  • Managed fractionally over a point a game this season (31 from 30). That is a slight improvement to this stage on their only previous Premiership campaign last year when 30 points after 30 games had been pocketed.
  • Won only two Premiership games away from home all season - both 0-1, at Bolton and Crystal Palace.
  • Lost nine away games in the top division. Only Southampton have been beaten more often on their top flight travels (11).
  • Lost the last six away from home in League and Cup against Everton (2-1 PL), Chelsea (3-0 PL), Southampton (2-1 FA Cup), Tottenham (3-1 PL), Aston Villa (2-1 PL) and Arsenal (3-0 PL).
  • Lost the last five Premiership matches on the road.
  • Not scored more than a single goal in the last 12 away Premiership matches.
  • Only scored more than a single goal once in away Premiership games this term (2-2 at Norwich on 2 October).
  • Aiyegbeni YAKUBU has scored four times in his last two appearances against Fulham.
  • If he plays, Linvoy PRIMUS will be making his 50th Premiership appearance.
