Match Stats - Aston Villa v Fulham 23.10.04

last updated Friday 22nd October 2004, 8:15 AM
Big match facts from BBCSport

Villa will be defending their unbeaten home Premiership record when they entertain a Fulham side still without a League win on the road this season.
  • The Villains, who were held by lowly Crystal Palace in their last home game, boast a 100% Villa Park record against the Cottagers in the Premiership. David O'Leary, having been offered a new long-term contract, manages the only Premiership club with as many as three remaining players who have figured in every minute of every one of their League and Cup games, namely Gavin McCann, Olof Mellberg and Jlloyd Samuel.
  • Juan Pablo Angel scored in both League fixtures with Fulham last season, when Villa did the 'double.' The Villains are unbeaten in five home League duels with the Thames-side club since 1973, winning three and drawing two.
  • Not won in five Premiership games.
Drawn four and lost one since beating Newcastle 4-2 at Villa Park on 28 August.
  • Drawn five of nine top flight games this term.
  • Drawn more Premiership matches than any other club all-time (140).
  • Lost only three of the last 18 Premiership matches.
  • Undefeated in home Premiership games (two wins, two draws).
  • Won three and drawn two in all competitions at Villa Park this season.
  • Yet to concede in the last half hour of a top League encounter.
  • Opened the scoring in five of their nine League outings. Only Arsenal (eight) and Newcastle (seven) had taken the lead more often in Premiership matches this season.
  • Juan Pablo ANGEL has scored in three of the last four meetings with Fulham.
  • If he participates ANGEL will be playing on the eve of his 29th birthday.
  • Darius VASSELL netted three goals in last season's two Premiership meetings with the Cottagers, and has scored four in five games against them.
Fulham were crushed by a stunning second-half fight back from Liverpool last time out. Having let 2-0 at the interval, the Cottagers eventually lost 2-4. Now they head for the Midlands eager to avoid a third successive Premiership defeat.
  • Chris Coleman's side have conceded six goals in back-to-back defeats at Crystal Palace, and home to the Merseysiders, but know that an emphatic victory here could see them leapfrog Villa.
  • The Cottagers have not won at Villa Park since a 2-3 success on 3 March 1973 in the original Second Division. Their last top flight victory there was 38 years ago, when Villa were eclipsed 2-5 on 12 March 1966.
  • Lost last two Premiership games.
  • Already suffered three League defeats on the trot this season, between 25 August and 11 September when Middlesbrough (0-1 h), Portsmouth (4-3 a) and Arsenal (0-3 h) defeated them.
  • Won only one of the last seven Premiership games.
  • Won only twice in the top division this season.
  • Failed to score in three of their last seven top flight encounters.
  • Second bottom in the Premiership's Last Six Current Form table.
  • Picked up just two points of 12 available on the road.
  • Of 17 goals conceded, ten have been shipped in the middle quarter hour of the second half of their Premiership encounters.
  • Still hold the worst disciplinary record in the Premiership (three red cards, 13 yellow).
  • Luis BOA MORTE, who scored both against Liverpool last time out, is chasing a third goal in as many seasons against Villa.
  • Should he be on the field at kick off, BOA MORTE will be making his 100th League start for Fulham.
  • When next involved from the opening whistle, Lee CLARK will be making his 150th start for the Cottagers.
  • If he plays, Steed MALBRANQUE will be making his 150th appearance for the Londoners.
  • If he lines-up from the outset, Billy McKINLAY will be making his 350th start in English and Scottish League football.
