Fulham manager Jean Tigana is set to make Monaco centre-half Martin Djetou the biggest signing in the London club's history.
The runaway First Division leaders are planning an £8 milllion raid for Djetou, who they feel would be ideal for their Premiership assault next season.
Tigana has already been in talks with his former employers about the move, however, the French club are reported to be looking for £10 million, not £8 million.
Fulham would be happy to wait until the summer to complete the move but Tigana could spring a surprise and sign Djetou, who he represented as an agent, before next month's transfer deadline.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea last month expressed an interest in Djetou, but they may well be beaten by their up and coming London neighbours.
