Barry Knight (Orpington, Kent)
Barry Knight begins his sixth spell in the top flight this season having graduated to the Premiership list in 1999. The 43-year-old is a chartered surveyor by day and started his refereeing sideline back in 1978.
He climbed the ranks to become a Football League referee's assistant in 1993/94, gaining promotion to the referee's list in 1994/95 - where he remained until 2000. In May 2000, during the play-off between Bolton and Ipswich, he awarded three penalties and issued 12 yellow and two red cards against Wanderers and nothing against the home side. He is no longer allowed within the Bolton City limits for his own safety. That restriction also includes places such as Southampton and Bournemouth where he is recalled with venom.
As can be imagined Ref Knight does not appear to be one of the shining lights of the Premiership or Nationwide and this season does not seem to be any better. Hope he has a good game ay Wigan.
