A prolific scorer, Koller also holds the
distinction of being the tallest top-flight player in Europe standing
at 6' 7. He has unusually good technique for such a tall man and was the
Czech Republic's top scorer in qualifying for Euro 2000.
Good in the air and surprisingly quick, this tall striker averaged a goal
a game in the 13 games after making a belated international debut against
Belgium in Brussels in 1999, and, although the goals have dried up since
then at international level, he remains one of the most feared srikers
in Europe.
Made his name in Belgium as the League's top scorer with Lokeren and was
eagerly snapped up by Anderlecht in summer 1999 for £1.8 million.
He kept banging them in that season on the way to the Belgian title. A
late developer, he made no waves at home with Sparta Prague, scoring just
five goals in two seasons before moving abroad in 1996.
It was after several impressive performances in Euro 2000, during which
he was denied a hat-full of goals by the woodwork, that he attracted interest
from English and German clubs such Sunderland, Liverpool Fulham and Borussia
Dortmund.
