The former Chelsea star has struggled to justify his £3.5m price tag ever since he quit the Blues for Fulham in 2001, and has struggled to oust regular first choice Rufus Brevett - with Cameroon star Pierre Wome also in contention for the left-back slot.

The 23-year-old was sent on loan to Bramall Lane for two months, but was recalled after the defensive duo were suspended for the FA Cup tie against Birmingham.

And having impressed in the 3-1 victory, Harley hopes he has won over boss Jean Tigana and can finally kickstart his Fulham career.

He said: "I haven't played many games at Fulham - nowhere near the number I would like to have played. "My confidence has been up and down because I haven't been playing regularly, but I'm hoping to forget all about that now and turn it around.

"I enjoyed my time at Sheffield United, I got a lot of confidence back and I'm now playing well. "That's how I have been playing for United so, hopefully I'm getting into a good run of form."
