Fulham have recalled Jon Harley from his loan spell at Sheffield United.
The former Chelsea man has returned south after a month at Bramall Lane to cover for Jean Tigana's injury and suspension-hit squad.
Fulham fullback Rufus Brevett cannot be called on against Birmingham on Sunday because his one-match ban has been transferred to the cup tie.
Full-back Pierre Wome will also be suspended for the Cup match, raising the possibility of Jon Harley being called up.
Blades boss Neil Warnock had hoped to extend Harley's stay for another month, but will now start the search for a replacement left-back.
He said: "Jon did want to stay, especially as he helped us into the semi-finals, but he has been recalled and I expect him to play for Fulham at the weekend."
Harley's last game was due to be the New Year's Day clash with Burnley that was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. He will now miss the Blades' two-legged Worthington Cup semi-final with Liverpool on January 8 and January 21,
